What a Professional Website Costs

5 posts

Every post in this series answers one question for one profession: what does a website actually cost, from us and from the vendors who specialize in your field? Every incumbent price is either taken from the vendor's own published pricing page or labeled as a third-party figure with its source and date. Where a vendor publishes no price at all, we say that plainly, because it is part of the answer.

How we verify: primary pricing pages are screenshotted and dated in our repository the day we cite them, and every figure is re-checked quarterly. Our own numbers come from the same published pricing you can compute at the calculator, at the Professional plan with each profession's realistic page count, with the one-time security-baseline setup shown as its own line and the client-paid Cloudflare Business plan (about $250/mo, ~$200 on annual billing) never hidden.

The table will also make something obvious: we are usually the premium option, and that is on purpose. TechTailors is a premium anti-agency. Hand-coded sites instead of shared template libraries, performance guaranteed in writing under the Lighthouse guarantee, security graded A+ by three independent scanners at /security, and SEO included with every build, from a managed Google Business Profile to LocalBusiness schema, led by a founder who came up through SEO. Every plan is fully managed, with unlimited content edits, maintenance for the life of the subscription, automatic technology upgrades at no extra cost, and a monthly health audit emailed with a plain-language summary of the work we did. You also text the person who built your site. The catalog runs deep under that one roof: blogging on an enterprise-grade CMS, e-commerce, digital advertising, CRO and A/B testing, analytics and ROI reporting, multi-language, site search, and custom integrations, all on one published rate card and all month-to-month after the first year. Flexibility is the through line: plans are self-selected and changeable, pages you retire wait in reserve instead of billing, and growing never means adding a second vendor. Each post weighs that against the platforms' stickers and the fine print underneath them.

The risk runs the other way from most of this market. Your Blueprint is a fixed quote whose deliverable is yours to keep even if you never sign. The build bills by milestone, never prepaid. The 30-day satisfaction guarantee is a written exit from the remaining 11 months if the fit is wrong after Go Live. The exit fee is zero, offboarding is documented before you sign, and the code buy-out is open from day one: build-and-buy-outright at Go Live is a standard engagement, not an exception, and for clients who stay managed the published ladder drops the price at every anniversary, so loyalty makes leaving cheaper instead of harder. Our annual review states, in writing, when you should be paying us less. And because every build holds WCAG accessibility standards, an eligible small business may qualify for the federal ADA Section 44 tax credit of up to $5,000 a year, which the calculator estimates (your accountant confirms; an estimate is not tax advice).

Whoever you end up hiring, ask every vendor on your shortlist the same seven questions:

  1. Who owns the domain, the hosting account, and the analytics history, today and at exit?
  2. Is the content written for you, or licensed from a library your competitors also publish?
  3. What exactly leaves with you when you cancel: the site, the phone numbers, the reviews, the data?
  4. Are the prices, SLAs, and credits published, or does the number depend on the sales call?
  5. Will they sell the same templates and playbook to the competitor across town?
  6. What do their own pages score on Google's PageSpeed test right now? (Our health checker will run any site, including theirs and ours.)
  7. When did they last tell a client to pay them less?

We publish our answers to all seven, and most of this market cannot answer the first one.

Everything under one roof

Breadth is part of the premium. The platforms in these posts sell a website with add-ons; agencies sell retainers by the specialty. TechTailors runs the whole growth path on one published rate card, and every add-on is month-to-month after the first year:

  • Publish: Blogging on an enterprise-grade CMS, flat $300/mo with unlimited posts.
  • Sell: E-Commerce from the $175–$375/mo micro-store on every plan up to headless storefronts at $3,000/mo.
  • Be found: SEO from $500/mo, on-page engagements, and Pagefind search included at 15 or more billable pages.
  • Advertise: Digital Advertising from $500/mo, managed by the people who built the pages the ads land on.
  • Convert: aCRO Audit at $1,000 one-time on any plan, and full A/B programs above it.
  • Measure: Analytics and ROI reporting with strategy consultations from $1,000/mo, with an accuracy credit behind the data.
  • Go global: Multi-Language builds for sites that sell in more than one tongue.
  • Integrate: Custom Integrations at $250 one-time per service, the line that keeps retiring middleware subscriptions.
  • Harden: Premium Hosting from $750/mo as the managed operations layer on your own Cloudflare account.
  • Alter anything: Alterations, for managed clients and for alumni who bought their code and left, because leaving does not end the relationship unless you want it to.
