Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about working with TechTailors — from how we're different to pricing, support, and what happens if you ever need to move on.

General

  1. How is TechTailors different from other web agencies?
Every site is hand-coded from scratch — we don't use templates, page builders, or bloated CMSes. Our pricing is published, our vendor decisions are documented, and your offboarding process is planned before you even sign up. The person who designed your architecture is the same person managing your account. There's no telephone game or handoff to a junior dev. We're a zero-legacy shop: every client gets our latest stack, never someone else's compromises.
  2. What technologies do you use?
We build on Astro (a modern, edge-optimized framework), deploy to Cloudflare's global edge network, and use Cloudinary for image optimization. Every vendor in our stack — from search to analytics to internationalization — was selected through rigorous, documented evaluation with no referral-fee bias. All of it priced for businesses of every size.
  3. Do I need to know anything technical?
Not at all. We handle everything — design, development, hosting, security, and ongoing maintenance. We're people-first, technology-second. You'll always know who's working on your project, and we'll walk you through every decision in plain language.

Getting started

  1. What happens after I reach out?
We'll respond promptly to schedule a free discovery call. During that call we'll explore your business goals, current digital presence, and pain points. From there, we'll recommend a tier and any add-on services that fit your needs and budget — without pressure or upselling.
  2. Is there an upfront cost to get started?
For standard sites under 40 pages, no — every Smart Casual and standard Professional plan starts at $0 down with no setup fees and no hidden charges. You pay monthly as your site grows. For Black Tie-tier engagements or any build scoped at 40 or more pages, an onboarding deposit applies (see the dedicated deposit FAQ below). The deposit covers the four to six weeks of mockup and development work that precede a 12-month subscription on those larger engagements.
  3. How long does it take to launch a new site?
Most Smart Casual sites go live within weeks, not months. After an initial consultation and mockup approval, development moves quickly because we're building from our current-generation architecture — not retrofitting legacy code. The exact timeline depends on your scope and add-ons, which we'll outline during onboarding.
  4. What if I'm not happy with the result?
All new clients sign a 12-month contract that includes a 30-day satisfaction guarantee. If you're not satisfied within the first 30 days, you can exit the remaining 11 months of the contract with no further payment obligation, no penalty, no questions asked. The guarantee is an exit clause, not a refund — the first month's subscription and any onboarding deposit are non-refundable because they cover service and labor already provided. We'd rather earn your trust than enforce a contract.

Services & support

  1. What does 'full-service management' actually include?
Everything it takes to keep your site fast, secure, and up to date: 24/7 support, unlimited content edits, maintenance for the life of your subscription, monthly Lighthouse and Core Web Vitals health audits, proactive security patching, Cloudflare edge hosting, and automatic technology upgrades at no extra cost. You focus on your business — we handle the rest.
  2. How does support work once I'm a client?
Every tier includes 24/7 support with unlimited edits and maintenance for the life of your subscription. Response time SLAs depend on your tier: 48-hour for Launch, 24-hour for Scale, and 16-hour for Enterprise (with a dedicated account team). You'll have a direct support channel for the fastest response.

Pricing & plans

  1. How does the Build-Your-Own-Plan pricing work?
Your site is priced two ways. Unique pages — home, about, contact, any one-off layout — are $25/month each. Page-types — any layout you reuse (service pages, blog posts, product pages, and the like) — are $25/month flat for up to 25 of them, then $25/month each beyond. Choose a tier that fits your scope, then add modular services as you need them — no forced upgrades, no wasted spend.
  2. What's included in the 12-month contract?
All new clients sign a one-time, 12-month contract that includes a 30-day satisfaction guarantee — if you're not satisfied within the first 30 days, you can exit the remaining 11 months of the contract with no further payment obligation, no penalty, no questions asked. The guarantee is an exit clause, not a refund: the first month's subscription and any onboarding deposit (40+ page builds only) are non-refundable because they cover service and labor already provided. The contract covers your website tier and any add-on services. There are no renewal contracts; after the initial term, you continue month-to-month.
  3. How do stackable discounts work?
All discounts stack on top of each other. Bulk discounts save $250/month for every $2,500/month you spend (up to $1,000/month at $10,000/month). Annual prepay lets you pay 11 months upfront and get the 12th free — an 8.3% discount. Referral rewards earn you 50% of your referral's monthly fees for 3 months as a credit off your invoice (up to $10,000/referral), applied after they stay 6 months.
  4. What happens if I downgrade or cancel an add-on?
Cancelled add-ons are disabled, and any related website pages may be locked. If you reactivate an add-on more than 6 months after cancellation, a reactivation fee equal to 100% of the last invoiced monthly cost applies (per your 12-month contract, Section 4.4). If you reactivate within 6 months, there's no fee. Locked pages can be unlocked at $25/page/month, or all unlock for free if you re-upgrade to your previous tier.
  5. Do you require an onboarding deposit?
Only when the optional Custom Mockup + Hands-on Development phases (Phases 3 + 4 of the onboarding roadmap) are part of your build, and only for the initial site-build engagement. Those phases are required automatically on builds scoped at 40 or more pages, and can be opted into voluntarily on smaller builds — for instance when you want a more hands-on design experience, or need TechTailors to create your branding assets. Below those triggers, the answer is no — the standard Smart Casual/Professional onboarding path skips Phases 3 + 4 entirely and requires no deposit. When the phases are included, we collect a one-time onboarding deposit equal to 1–3 times your projected monthly cost, payable when you sign the Statement of Work for the Custom Mockup + Hands-on Development phases. The deposit is non-refundable because the four to six weeks of mockup and development work it covers is performed before your 12-month subscription begins, and that work cannot be unperformed once it has been done — the deposit is the compensation for that already-rendered labor. The exact multiplier within the 1–3× range is determined at our discretion based on project complexity (template-heavy builds default to 1×, standard custom builds to 2×, custom-design-intensive builds to 3×) and is specified as a concrete dollar amount in your SOW. Two important boundaries: this onboarding deposit is separate from the 30-day satisfaction guarantee. The guarantee is an exit clause, not a refund — it lets you exit the remaining 11 months of your 12-month subscription with no further payment obligation, but does not refund the deposit (already-rendered pre-launch labor) or the first month's subscription (already-rendered service). And this deposit applies only to your initial site build; adding an add-on later (Search, Multi-Language, E-Commerce Pro, CRO, or any other) to an existing subscription never triggers a deposit, regardless of tier or page count.
  6. Do blog posts and product listings count toward my page total?
Yes — but generously. Your blog and your product catalog are each a page-type: one flat $25/month covers the shared layout and its first 25 items. So a blog with 25 posts, or a catalog with 25 products, is a single $25/month line. Beyond 25, each additional post or product is $25/month — unless the matching add-on is active. With a Blogging add-on, posts never bill per-page (the add-on's own pricing is the volume pricing), and they stop counting toward your tier's page range too; the same goes for E-Commerce and products. Small content sites stay cheap; genuine volume rides the add-on.
  7. Can I bank pages for future growth?
Yes. Pay the higher tier's base price to access its premium add-ons, and bank any unused pages for later. When you're ready to expand, we add those pages at no extra charge. For example, a Black Tie-tier client using only 60 of their 80 pages banks 20 for future growth while gaining immediate access to all Black Tie add-ons.

Ownership & offboarding

  1. Do I own my website and data?
Yes. All your data is fully exportable at no extra cost, and service accounts transfer directly to you if you leave. We also offer a lump-sum buy-out option so you can own the source code outright. Your offboarding is seamless — because your trust matters more than a contract.
  2. How does the lump-sum buy-out work?
The buy-out lets you own the source code outright. The cost is your projected annual subscription multiplied by 2x (Smart Casual tier) or 2.5x (Professional/Black Tie), rounded down to the nearest hundred. For example, a Professional-tier client paying $12,000/year would pay $30,000 for full ownership. Lump-sum purchases do not include ongoing support, maintenance, or updates — but you're welcome to return and subscribe later.
  3. What happens to my data if I leave?
All your data is fully exportable at no extra cost. Service accounts (blogging, e-commerce, analytics, etc.) transfer directly to you. If you don't want to assume ownership of certain accounts, we can cancel them on your behalf. We make offboarding seamless — your trust matters more than a contract.
  4. What if I need to leave TechTailors?
We make it easy. Service accounts transfer directly to you, all data exports are free, and we document your offboarding plan before you even become a client. You can also purchase full code ownership via our lump-sum buy-out (2x annual cost for Smart Casual tier, 2.5x for Professional/Black Tie, rounded down to the nearest hundred). If you ever come back, we'll sync your site to our latest standards for free.
