What a 100 in Performance means for your business: your site loads in roughly a second on a phone. That’s the gut feel of an app, not a website. The seconds you make a prospect wait are the customers you don’t close.
Sites loading in 1 second converted at roughly 39%. By 2.4 seconds, that rate fell below 2%. By 5.7 seconds, it was under 1%. Earlier industry research, including Akamai’s State of Online Retail Performance report (opens in new tab), has found similar patterns: even sub-second delays measurably erode conversions.

In practical terms: a visitor lands on the median WordPress site, waits roughly 6.4 seconds for the main content to appear, and a substantial share leave before it does. The gap below is measured in missed phone calls and form submissions you never hear about.
